I'm Not Edward Cullen: A Song

Stolen from John Green's blog.

Can I just say that Hank Green is one of the funniest guys I've ever run across. Who thinks of this stuff?? Hank. Hank does. That's who.

Hank is just too cute!

Who's the chick?

That's his wife, Katherine.

OMG...too funny. I love the video footage. (g)

I really need to get back into their video blogs. Haven't watched them in a very long time.

What did you think of JG's publishing posts?

Tara,

Honestly, I've only skimmed them -- if that. The one thing that really stuck out in my mind was the 8K advance he got for Alaska! !!! It's a friggin' Printz winner. (G)

What's the gist? Your thoughts?

Basically I think he was saying that publishers shouldn't give out big advances and they should give the authors more in royalties.

This way they'd be more inclined to pick up the authors for future books, if they didn't put all their eggs in one basket, so to speak.

Seems logical to me, but then he said his math was faulty or something and dropped the subject.

Tara,

Interesting. Huh. I don't know the math either, so I really can't say. BUT..I am a huge opponent to the multi-million advance deals for these silly celebrity books. They never earn out (or rarely do) and it kills the mid-list. I could care less what the hell Lauren Conrad has to write about. But maybe that's me. (g)

Well, I don't know who Laura Conrad IS, so I'd have to agree with you!

And I've never been able to quite figure out what "mid-list" means.

Tara,

LOL -- Lauren Conrad is the star of The Hills. She got some big deal to write YA books. Her first is out now, I think it's called LA Candy. Someone posted this great comparison between her writing and Joseph Conrad's work. LMAO. It was hilarious. Let's just say her book is rather...superficial. And her command of language, abysmal. (g) I will NOT give in and buy it. No matter how morbidly curious I am.

Mid-list is just that...mid-list authors who receive adequate advances...a fair amount of push from the publisher, but nothing major. Basically by giving big advances that never earn out, publishers are much less likely to take on a book that will have average to fair sales, no matter how good the book may be.
