The third book I wanted to finish by next week is GILEAD by Marilynne Robinson. After that last one, I was really hoping to fall into a great book that would wipe the memory of it away. It's a pultizer, so yeah, you'd think I'd be set...
First line:
I told you last night that I might be gone sometime, and you said, Where, and I said, To be with the Good Lord, and you said, Why, and I said, Because I'm old, and you said, I don't think you're old.
'nuff said. I'm taking it back. (g)
(I really wanted to take part in the reading group at compu...but I just can't do it.)

LOL!!!
I haven't read it, but I've heard mixed things...It seems that people either love it or hate it.
If I recall correctly, it has no chapter breaks. Now I can't decide if I should try it...my TBR collection is already ridiculous.
Precie,
LOL. (g) I may give it a shot later on, but I'm in no mood right now. :) Plus, I'll rent it instead.

I haven't bought this yet - maybe I won't now. Sounds kind of annoying. Thanks for letting us know, Jen!
Wait, Je-en!! I just ordered the darn thing because of the reading group! Now you're telling me it sucks? I thought we weren't going to reject things based only on first lines anymore? Heck, I slogged my way through Mistress of the Art of Death, didn't I? Anyway, we need dissenting voices in the book group too!
Hi, Tara, what do you mean, no chapter breaks? Even Ulysses has chapter breaks!
Tara,
Well, it may be quite good for all I know. I simply couldn't read it last night. LOL. I may just return it and go rent it from the library instead. (g)

Deniz,
LOL -- well, I may go back and read it still. I meant to rent it and then got carried away and bought it the other day when they didn't have the book I wanted. (g) I think I'm just going to take it back and wait a couple of days to see if I can get into it.
And Precie was correct. I just flipped through it and there are indeed no chapter breaks. However, there are _breaks_ in the text. Weird.
